Your child’s school has agreed to partner with researchers from the University of Southampton on the Forest School and Pupil Wellbeing project. We will work with the school to gather your child’s views on their experiences of learning in different school environments, both inside the classroom and outside during Forest School. We aim to understand more about how these environments influence their wellbeing.

Our approach will use creative and participate research methods to engage children with diverse learning needs, so all children can have a voice and contribute their views. These methods include digital filmmaking and photography,

Hello, my name is Sarah and I am a researcher from the University of Southampton. I am doing a study on what it is like to learn at your school. I want to find out what you think of your school, including the things you like and don’t like about learning in your classroom and outside during Forest School. This study will help your teachers understand more about how you prefer to learn. Your teachers will also be able to share ideas with other schools taking part in the study. If you want to take part, you can show me what you do at your school by taking photographs or making a video-recording. You can choose which you’d prefer to do. You will then have help from one of your teachers, and from me, to answer some questions. And you can also draw a picture. Afterwards, I will give a report to give to your school, and the other schools taking part in the study. Your name will not be in the report, and the video-recordings and photographs will be deleted. You don’t have to take part – you can choose if you would like to or not. And you can stop at any time by telling an adult. If you have any questions, you can ask me or one of your teachers.

Hi, I’m Sarah. I’m a Doctoral Researcher in Health Geography and Education at the University of Southampton and I am leading this project. My research interests include using creative and participatory methods with children and adults to explore how physical and social environments influence health and wellbeing across a range of settings.
